Creativity as Worship (1)
Life Church Petersfield 19 February

Genesis Chapter 1 Verse 1

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

God is creative. It is the first thing He says about Himself. It is the nature of His Spirit.

He speaks things into existence and checks what He has done at the end of each day saying that, 'It is good'. There is an inherent joy in creating. All creation is subject to His voice and had to obey Him.

When God created man it was different. In giving Adam life, God breathed His Spirit into him. Gods Spirit is creative. We have the creative spirit of God, the 'Maker of the Universe' within us. He cares about who we are and what we do.

Genesis Chapter 2 verses 19 and 20

The Lord God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what He would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature that was its name'. This creative act is the first time man has dominion over Gods creation. God allows man to name the creatures He had made. God is interested in Adam's creative act and takes pleasure in this act of worship. Exercising our creativity is an act of worship to God. He takes pleasure in all we do. We are creative in what we do.

Eleven activities, some very 'creative and art based' others more 'everyday life' were set out for the church to use to help to illustrate the point that 'we are creative'.
